The Becoming

"The Becoming" by Nora Roberts is book 2 in her new fantasy series (The Dragon Heart Legacy). 🐉 I think I'm going to really love this series when it's done. Dragons, Fey, magical worlds, what's not to love?

Full disclosure though, I did not love the first book after I read it. It felt like all exposition and set up and dragged for me; it doesn't stand well on its own. But it had good character development and world building, and while I didn't walk away loving that one, I did preorder this one.

With this book, there is enough happening to keep the plot moving and enough characters (with book 1's good foundation) to give you the slower, personal moments without dragging. It did a good job of recapping book 1 without bogging you down and has good lead in to book 3 without epic cliffhangers.

All in all, a solid addition to the series, which I think will ultimately end with the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
