Attaining my Master’s in Library and Information Science has laid the foundation to support my passion for what libraries bring to the community. I specialized in web design and development because I am a detail oriented person, and I am interested in the background processes that enable libraries to function. A follow-up course, Basics of Cataloging, from University of Wisconsin-Madison expanded my working knowledge of original cataloging and RDA practices.
My current position with Technical Services at Bemis Public Library utilizes my ability to prioritize and adjust my workflow between various projects to meet the needs of both my department and the library as a whole. In addition to daily tasks, such as ordering, receiving, cataloging, and processing new materials, I also balance sporadic tasks such as training volunteers, database maintenance projects, and writing macros to help make the Technical Services team more efficient.
Whether it is with people, technology, or organizations, my passion lies in being a part of the systems that lay the groundwork and serve the big picture to make libraries better.
