Unfortunately, "Court of the Vampire Queen", by Katee Robert, is coming in around 1.5 stars for me. The ending really killed it but not in a way you'd expect. The storyline was good, the romance was good, and as long as you don't have a problem with blood, the sex scenes were good. 👍

This story is split into three sections, and for the first two, I was having a grand old time. I was surprised at how good I thought this book was since I'm generally pretty meh on vampires, but I was into it! If that had continued, this probably would have been a 4 star read.

Then I started part three. 👎

The start of part three reads like it's a new book in a series. There are recaps and reminders of things you read already, some of them less than 10 pages ago. And while a bit annoying, that probably wouldn't have brought my rating so low on its own. The worst part is that some of these recaps are now contradicting what already happened. What various characters do and don't know changes, details of one of the vamp powers changes, and worst of all, our heroine goes into the final fight with thoughts of how the villain doesn't know what she is when they spent time in the previous section torturing folk to find out that the villain did indeed know what she was.

The whole third section had good plot bones and could have been a great end to the story but was so rushed and contradictory that it ruined it for me. It felt like it was tacked on and rushed to print. It made it a real struggle to finish this book, which was super disappointing.

So, I can recommend 2/3s of this book. I suppose it's up to you if you think the devil is in the details enough for that to stop you.
