"Caged Bird Rising" by Nino Delia is a sapphic reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood. It is an interesting twist to the story and a decent addition to the genre.
Be forewarned, the writing style and pacing make this book a little harder to connect to, both the story and characters, especially in the beginning. But the second half and the resolutions are a pretty good payoff.
In exploring themes like gender roles and ideas as infection, it could get a little heavy handed, and I felt there were some implied messages that rubbed me a little wrong, but I can't go into detail without major spoilers. So, if fairytale retellings are your thing, give this one a chance.
