"Boyfriend Material" by Alexis Hall is everything I want in a romcom. It's cute and sweet and funny (every scene had something to make me grin).

But it's also emotional, and not all of the emotions are on the happy end of the scale. Every character is written as a fully developed person with flaws and baggage and insecurities, and I love them for that. Plus, it's a refreshing change of pace to see a more realistic representation of a blossoming relationship than the standard romance novel formula with one fight/crisis in Act 3 followed by a happily ever after.

This is a book with a sequel set to come out next year, which I look forward to, but it stands on its own just fine. The plot summary for the next book leads me to believe it is going to be another story for this couple more than a direct continuation of this story.
