I just found out I qualify for Career Progression and have been promoted from Library Assistant to Librarian. I am super excited to have earned this opportunity! While the role I fill at my library hasn't changed too much over the years, this is now the 5th change to my job title or hours since I started working here. Every time I have been entrusted with a bit more responsibility, and I cannot express how appreciative I am.

It blows my mind to think about how I started working here as a 24-hour clerk and am now a full-time librarian. In addition to feeling valued by a library that I love, I'm really happy to now be in a position that acknowledges my master's degree.

So now, I get to add the responsibility of managing our Reference, Genealogy, and Periodical collections. So excited! The scary part is that my degree was entirely tech and backend focused, which means I have no concept of how to go about managing any collection let alone the specific requirements of these collections. I am very lucky in that I have incredible support from my boss, library director, and the rest of the library staff, so I'm working on finding and taking various courses and webinars to learn what I can. Plus, I'm taking over these collections at a good time in the year. I've seen some of our larger collections transition to new people right at the end of the year, and I didn't envy them their mad scramble to figure their new roles out and make major decisions before year end finances rolled through.

This is the start of a new chapter in my career, and while I'm a bit apprehensive, I couldn't be more excited for this new opportunity!
